Qoriwawas 2019-2020

Qoriwawas
(Golden Children, Children of the Sun)

Be the change you want to see in the world.
Seeing it through my childhood eyes…
This Christmas was our second year of bringing a smile, and presents, to some children in the Highlands of Peru. These children have very little and mostly they will spend Christmas helping their parents on the farm.
I want to thank my sister Evy, who is a teacher in one primary school outside our city of Cusco, in Yanaoca, a village in Canas. I asked her to help me throw a surprise Christmas party for her Year 4 class. She asked a colleague and we had 43 children who each received a PE set, football, panettone, hot chocolate and hope.
Also, I want to thank each friend who donated money to me in the past to help us with this event.
Most primary schools in the highlands have more than 200 children, our aim is to bring a smile and hope every Christmas to each of them, this will only be possible if each year we have enough funding.
We don’t want to rely on the generosity of our friends to support us delivering this event each year by giving us cash, this is why we created “la casa Peruana UK in Manchester” at home. We want La casa Peruana in the UK to embody compassion and solidarity, and create a space for Spanish speaking people to come together and create a community to help each other, and by doing so help our projects. We aim to sell Peruvian and South American food, to raise funds so please be mindful of this, it will happen as soon as Covid-19 is over.
Finally, why Qoriwawas? Qoriwawas (in Quechua means) Golden children, our planet is relying on them.

Consent was given to publish these children’s photos.

Thank you.
Bertha
